The first is 7-9 p.m., Monday, at Los Altos Hills Town Hall, 26379 Fremont Road. The second forum is also 7-9 p.m., Oct. 6, at Town Hall. Candidates will be offered a three-minute opening statement, and then asked to field questions from the audience. Association members said the candidates have been sent in advance a list of questions about issues for discussion at the forum. The candidates invited to attend are: incumbent councilwoman Toni Casey; Jim Steiner, a member of the town finance committee; Steve Finn, a former town planning commissioner; and Dot Schreiner, current planning commissioner. Music theater lovers meeting locally Musical Theatre Lovers United, a San Francisco-based group that meets to sing songs from Broadway and Hollywood musicals is seeking local membership with a Sunday meeting at a private residence in Los Altos. Club kicks off stamp month The Los Altos Library, along with the Foothill Stamp Club, invite visitors to their kick-off for National Stamp Collecting Month, set for 7-9 p.m., Oct. 5, in the library Community Room, 13 S. San Antonio Road. Club members will demonstrate the tools of collecting and how to use them. A freebie table will include stamp packets for new collectors and samples of periodicals for the collector. Newcomers Club welcomes members The Newcomers Club of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills invites newcomers, those who have moved into the community within the past two years, to join the club. The club offers many activities including tennis, bridge, golf and book groups plus a monthly TGIF wine and cheese party. For more information, call 917-8863 or 938-5676. Alto-View Newcomers The Alto-View Newcomers' Club, a nonprofit oganization serving families in both Los Altos and Mountain View, regularly sponsors a variety of activities, including wine tastings, moms and tots get-togethers, a book club and tennis and pot luck dinners. Habitat hikes, pond prowls The Los Altos-based Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District welcomes volunteers to be outdoor recreation leaders. These folks work with small groups of students on habitat hikes through oak woodlands as well as on "pond prowls" where students explore a fresh water pond community. outings. A comprehensive hands-on training program will be held on Tuesdays this fall. Classes offered aspiring leaders The Los Altos Community Foundation is offering a five-day workshop for fourth-through-sixth grade students who may be interested in community involvement. The workshop, held once a week for five weeks beginning Monday, includes meetings with Los Altos Mayor Kris Casto and state Assemblyman Jim Cunneen.
