Fall-winter Morning Forum lecture series announced

The membership-only Los Altos Morning Forum lecture series has announced its eight-lecture program for fall and winter 1998-99 at the Los Altos United Methodist Church, Foothill Expressway and Magdalena Avenue, Los Altos.

The first lecture, Sept.22, featured White House correspondent Karen Breslau, speaking on "How Will History Judge the Clinton White House?"

The other lectures are:

Oct. 6: Gerald Uelmen, Santa Clara University professor, speaking on "The Grand Jury System: Does It Work?";

Oct. 20: Rev. Cecil Williams, minister of liberation, Glide Memorial United Methodist Church, on "The Courage to Live Without Fear";

Nov. 3: Richard Reeves, syndicated columnist, on "What the People Know: Freedom and the Press";

Nov. 17: Anne M. Robichaud, Umbrian regional tour guide, on "Assisi Before and After the Sept. 26, 1997 Earthquake";

Dec. 8: Dr. William Ratliff, Hoover Institution at Stanford, on "Who's a Threat to the U.S.? Now, Castro or the Embargo Lobby?";

Jan. 5, 1999: Judge Abraham Sofaer, Hoover Institution, on "The Threat of International Terrorism: A Search for Answers";

Jan. 19, 1999: Susan Estrich, columnist, on "Getting Away with Murder: Politics, Crimes and the Rule of Law."

All lectures are scheduled for 10:15 a.m. The lecture series was founded in 1950.
