LA cross-country runner Hill wins Firebird Invitational

os Altos High cross-country runner Andrew Hill captured the boys' portion of the Firebird Invitational last Thursday.

The senior ran the 2.1-mile course at Sunnyvale's Fremont High in 9:48.

Steve Perry (12th) and Matt Ayers (15th) also finished in the top 20 for the Eagles, who took third overall.

The Los Altos girls captured third at the Firebird as well.

Rebecca Burnham and Katherine Hill (Andrew's sister) were the Eagles' top finishers.

SF water polo takes 5th

The St. Francis High boys water polo team placed fifth at last weekend's Palo Alto Tournament.

The Lancers (8-2) defeated Leland 5-4 in Saturday's fifth-place game. Geoff McCann scored three goals for St. Francis, while Brian Avon and Steve Lipinksi had one goal apiece.
