HOF to honor locals

The San Jose Sports Hall of Fame will honor former St. Francis High volleyball star Niki Hartley and the Central Valley Mercury soccer team at its annual induction ceremony Nov. 5. Hartley, now playing for the University of Florida, has been named high school female athlete of the year. The girls on the Mercury will be honored as amateur athletes of the year. The under-18 squad won its third straight national title over the summer, with locals Anna Kraus, Kati McBain (St. Francis) and Rachel Hoffman (Gunn) playing major roles. New prep sports show

Highlights from local prep sporting events can be seen on "The Sunday Examiner and Chronicle High School Sports Show" at 10:30 a.m. Saturdays on KRON-TV Channel 4. The show, which made its debut Sept. 12, also airs at 11:30 a.m. Saturdays on BayTV, Cable 35. It's hosted by KRON's Malou Nubla and BayTV's Will Selva.

Soccer tryouts

A Palo Alto under-16 girls Class I soccer team is seeking skilled and dedicated players born after July 31, 1982. The team is coached by Rob Kusel. For more information, call 858-8544 or 725-9343.

LA Boosters dinner

The Los Altos High School Athletic Boosters will hold their annual Oktoberfest dinner and auction from 6-11 p.m. Saturday. Dinner is $35 per person and will be held at the home of Sue and John Sullivan. Proceeds go to Los Altos High athletics for uniforms, awards, etc. For more information, call 941-2322.
