Local children take scary advantage of the face-painting activities available at the annual Celebrate Los Altos Fall Festival. This weekend's event will have more of the same, along with a lot of other not-so-scary stuff. Pictured here is Noel Kwalick.
Special to the Town Crier
The seventh annual "Celebrate Los Altos Fall Festival" will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., this Saturday and Sunday, in the parking plaza between Main Street and San Antonio Road in Los Altos.
The festival will include more than 160 vendors featuring art, crafts, jewelry, clothing, holiday decorative items, microbreweries, local wineries and a food tent with cooking demonstrations that is new this year.
The festival is sponsored by the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce and proceeds benefit the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce programs.
More than 30,000 people are expected to attend the event, according to chamber officials.
The Children's Alley is one of the highlights of the festival and features the popular scarecrow contest. Children of all ages, adults and businesses are invited to enter their handmade scarecrows to win prizes.
The Alley, designed for children activities, includes a Choo Choo Train, hands-on carnival activities run by local schools, interactive booths for making wax hands, face-painting and live stage shows.
Lisa Atkinson will sing children's songs from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. both days. Magic Window Puppets start the entertainment at noon each day, followed by Jimbo the Clown and Tim the Enchanter and his magic.
Entertainment on the Main Stage features a mix of old and new music from swing to rock and roll and jazz.
The jazz group Grooveyard Shift starts the music at 11 a.m. both days, followed by String of Pearls at 1 p.m. on Sunday and the South Bay Express from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Local restaurants and markets will dish up specialties ranging from pizza to Chinese chicken salad and barbecued ribs in the food court.
Restaurants include Andronico's Market, Armadillo Willy's, Chef Chu's, Clarke's Charcoal Broiler and Papa Murphy's Pizza.
A new addition will be the popular "kettle korn" that appeared at the downtown Los Altos Art & Wine Festival in July.
Auto enthusiasts will enjoy the classic car show with more than 40 vintage cars on display each day and awards given out to the best cars in the show.
Parking and admission are free. Volunteers are needed to help with the booths. For more information, call the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce at 948-1455.
