Picasso's role as "the most significant inventor in all art history" will be emphasized by Los Altos resident Dr. Peter G. Arnovick at his lecture-slide presentation "Picasso and the Weeping World," scheduled for 7 p.m., Oct. 7, at the Los Altos main library.

Arnovick, an internationally recognized scholar on the life and work of Picasso, has been Professor of Art History and English at Menlo College. He is also beginning his third decade of teaching a variety of art appreciation courses for the Foothill College Community Services Program. Arnovick's lecture, co-sponsored by the Art Docents of the Los Altos School District and the Los Altos Library, is given free as a community service.

This lecture is of particular interest to those planning to view the exhibition "Picasso and the War Years: 1937-1945," at the Legion of Honor from Oct. 10, through Jan. 3, 1999. The lecture will be at the main library branch, 13 S. San Antonio Road, San Antonio Road on Wednesday Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. Seating is limited.

The Los Altos Art Docents are a volunteer organization that provide more than 40 classes in watercolor, clay sculpture, brush painting, graphic design, print making and art appreciation for kindergarten through eighth grade in the Los Altos schools.
