Brodie Meyer of Los Altos is among the approximately 275 men to have pledged at one of the 18 fraternities at the University of Idaho. He is currently a pledge at the Delta Tau Delta house.

Nima Soltanzad and Katherine Stober, both of Los Altos, and Charlotte Stevenson of Los Altos Hills, were among the 10 students at Castilleja School to be named semifinalists in the 45th annual 1999 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Tracy Cheung of Los Altos was among the 11 students at Menlo School to have been named a National Merit semifinalist.

Michael Atkinson, Aruna Balakrishnan, Carin Cymanski, Brett Gibson, Jennifer Hennings, Lauren McCutcheon, Anita Mhaskar, Michael Morita, Richard Opaterny, Ravi Raghavan, Sharon Russell and Nairi Tashjian were among the 12 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists at St. Francis High in Mountain View.

The scholarship program honors students who show exceptional academic ability.

Semifinalists received the highest PSAT results in the state. More than 1.2 million students from 20,000 schools nationwide entered the contest. Semifinalists represent less than one percent of each state's graduating class.
