Target scholarships awarded to hs seniors

Target Stores will award $1.6 million in 1998 Target All-Around Scholarships to high school seniors nationwide.

Approximately 1,600 students will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.

All-Around scholarshp recipients are selected by a scholarship management firm based on community service, leadership awards and grade point averages.

MV High holds annual Alumni Day

Former Awalt and Mountain View high school students are invited to attend the annual "Eagle" Alumni Day at 9 a.m. to sundown, Oct. 3 at Cuesta Park in Mountain View.

The event will include music, dancing, food vendors and a raffle.

No alcoholic beverages allowed.

Guests need to bring their own tables and chairs.

Notre Dame High hosts golf tournament

Notre Dame High School in San Jose will host a golf tournament, dinner and auction Oct. 12 at The Village Golf and Country Club.

All proceeds will benefit the school's scholarship program.

Golf, dinner and auction is $185 per person. Dinner and auction only is $50. For more information, call (408) 286-2057.

Safe Ride launches toll-free number

Palo Alto Red Cross Safe Ride, the teen-operated program that provides a safe alternative to drinking and driving, launched a new, toll-free number for students.

Those in need of a sober ride can call 1-800-550-RIDE.

The program extends as far north as Daly City and runs south to Mountain View and provides rides for all areas in between.

Artists and Crafters needed for Almond fair

Artists and crafters are needed to display their crafts at the annual Almond School Craft Faire from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dec. 4 and 5 at Almond School, 550 Almond Ave., Los Altos.

Spaces are 8 feet by 8 feet and cost $35.

All proceeds from space rentals will be donated to the school. For more information, call Kathy at 941-7821.

Fashion show at Bellarmine

The Bellarmine Mothers' Guild is presenting the "Bellarmine World Tour '98" fashion show Nov. 13 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose.

The show will feature Banana Republic, Cache, GAP, Speedo, Talbots and formal wear by Eli Thomas.All proceeds will go toward the scholarship endowment fund.

The luncheon show is at 11 a.m. and costs $68. The dinner show is at 6:30 p.m. and costs $115. For more information, call (408) 997-8203.

'Outlooks' accepting new students this fall

New Outlooks, an alternative high school in the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District, is looking for new students.

Located at the Community Health Awareness Council facility in downtown Mountain View, New Outlooks provides treatment for substance-abusing teens in combination with a high school education.
