The St. Franics High football team got back on the winning track last Friday with a convincing 34-8 nonleague triumph over host Palo Alto. But the win may have come at a steep price

After a stretch of tough nonleague games, the Lancers have endured their share of injuries. But standout junior halfback Ronald Nunn's injury to his left big toe on Friday may spell the difference between a good and great season.

Nunn injured his toe early in the third quarter with St. Francis leading 34-0. And it was to be Nunn's final carry of the game.

"We were going to pull him after that series," said Lancer coach Mike Mitchell. "He was in one play too long.'

The extent of the injury has not been determined and Nunn will probably miss Friday night's showdown against De La Salle at 7:30 p.m in Mountain View. De La Salle has won a national record 79 straight games and is ranked No. 1 in the country by USA Today.

Two-way player Matt Lemos, also the Lancers' kicker/punter, pulled his calf muscle last Friday and is questionable for De La Salle.

"We came out of the game a little banged up," Mitchell said. "But we'll send 11 guys out there. That's what we always do."

St. Francis scored four touchdowns in the span of 8:30 in the second quarter against Paly to hold the 34-0 halftime lead. Nunn tallied three of the scores on runs of 2, 30 and 4 yards.

Senior fullback Jeff Endaya scored on a 36-yard touchdown run and tight end Garrett Cook caught a 39-yard scoring pass from quatrterback Mike Mayon.
