Locals addressing domestic violence issue

Editorial

Los Altos Police Chief Lucy Carlton and renowned juvenile court Judge Len Edwards were two of the more prominent local officials attending the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and Domestic Violence Council's sixth annual conference Thursday in San Jose.

This council has accomplished much in recent years to address family violence. Most notable has been its efforts toward a ruling that allows for on-call restraining orders in cases where obvious abuse has taken place. Through the county's efforts, more charges are being filed and more offenders are being punished.

That's good news in a type of crime that has largely gone unreported in prior years. Thanks to people like Carlton and Edwards, some progress is being made.
