The downtown Los Altos festival, sponsored by the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce, benefits the myriad programs the chamber accomplishes. "This is our first time here selling wine and I'm surprised how good it's been," said Melissa Lynch, of 1-800-WINE-SHOP of California. "This is the type of event we enjoy." "It was a smashing success. We had a great turnout, the weather was perfect, the chefs were remarkably popular and very well received," said Julie Rose, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, following the two-day event. During the festival, a cooking demonstration featuring eight different local and Bay Area chefs preparing their favorite recipes. The tent was well attended with cooking fanatics looking for a new way to prepare dishes. After each test demonstration, the chef's delicacy was enjoyed by the audience in a tasting session. Two cars that drew attention in the classic car section were shown by Gunn High School students. "We learn how to take care of your personal car and we work on the two cars on exhibit. One is a replica of Dan Gurney's 1970 Plymouth Barracuda and the other is the Nova 355-cubic-inch Chevrolet engine," said Jennifer Fehl, a Gunn senior from Palo Alto. "We learn how to change the oil, grease the car and work on the engines in our class." Saturday's announced car-of-the-show was a 1933 Pierce Arrow owned by Bob Jacobsen of Los Altos. |
