The following seventh and eighth grade students were among those to receive state honors for receiving the highest scores in the mathematics and verbal talent search conducted by the Institute for the Academic Advancement of Youth: Los Altos residents, Angeline Baecker, Charles Callaghan, Francesca Centofanti, Eric Cheng, Jeffrey Chiu, Justin Hsia, Doris Huang, Matthew Jurka, Zachary Keats, George Kwon, Beryl Lee, John Legall, Stephanie Lin, Andrew Moll, Melissa Ng, Samia Rogers, Katherine Santoso, Julia Sorensen, Lindsey Stephens, Michael Susman, Emily Williams and Rachel Zeldin; Los Altos Hills residents, Sara Bowling and Ferah Munshi; and Mountain View residents, Hannah Cao, Kristen Mulenburg, Amanda Reed, Craig Roddin, Kevin Roy, Elizabeth Wood, and Courtney Yin.
Drew Grewal, a 1998 graduate of Los Altos High School, was awarded the Tall Club of Silicon Valley's annual scholarship in the amount of $250.
He also won the $1,000 Kae Sumner Einfeldt Scholarship presented by Tall Clubs International.
Grewal, an Eagle Scout who maintined a 4.0 grade point average all through high school, is 6 feet 5 inches tall. He is attending Brown Univesity and majoring in environmental science.
Stephanie L. Fong, daughter of Vincent and Linda Fong of Los Altos Hills, enrolled at Amherst College in Massachusetts this month. Fong is a graduate of Mountain View High School.
Sheila Alesi, teacher at Whisman School in Mountain View, was among the 26 teachers countywide to be recogized as Teacher of the Year at the 29th Annual Teacher Recognition Day Monday at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts.
David W. Daines, son of Barbara and John Daines of Los Altos, enrolled at Claremont McKenna College this fall. A graduate of Homestead High School, he is currently studying literature and economics at McKenna.
