Lempert holds meeting on college affordability

Assemblyman Ted Lempert (D- Palo Alto) will bring college affordability experts to meet with parents and students discuss recent Federal and state changes taht will help families pay for college. From 6:30 8 p.m., Oct. 7 at Palo Alto High School.

Lempert, who chairs the Assembly's Committee on Higher Education said topics will include: scholarshare, Cal Grant Programs and Federal Tax credits.

Golf tournament benefits CUSD

The Cupertino Educational Endowment Foundation's 12th annual gold tournament will be played on Oct. 9 at the Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Club with an awards dinner and auction immediately following golf across the road at 3Com's corporate headquarters. PRoceeds from the day will benefit math and lietracy programs in the Cupertino Union School District, including Montclaire School in Los Altos.

The tournament will feature three speical team competition categories with trophies and prizes for top corporate, city and school teams. A Hewlett-Packard color InkJet printer will be awarded to the winning school's computer lab.

The tournament costs $160 per person and includes practice balls, golf cart, lunch, and awards dinner.

Band competition to be held at Cupertino

Marching bands from Los Altos, Mountain View, Homestead and Cupertino high schools will be performing in the first marching band competition of the season Oct. 10.

The competition includes both parade competition, which begins at 10 a.m. on Stevens Creek Road, and a field competition, which begins at 5 p.m. at Cupertino High School.
