Mini-triathlon in PA

The Albert L. Schultz Jewish Community Center in Palo Alto is hosting a mini-triathlon Oct. 18. The race will include a 400-meter pool swim, an 11-mile bike ride and a five-kilometer run. Deadline to register is Oct. 12 and the race is limited to 50 competitors. Registration is $25. For more information, call 493-0563, ext. 236.

Volunteers needed

The Santa Clara County Special Olympics is seeking volunteer coaches for long distance running, soccer, power lifting and ice skating. There's also a need for people to coordinate awards at the competitions. There will be a new volunteer orientation at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Special Olympics office, 5730 Chambertin Drive, San Jose. Sports sign-ups

Registration is now underway for youth roller hockey at the El Camino YMCA in Mountain View. Kids in kindergarten through eighth grade are eligible to enroll in the league, which opens its season Oct. 17. For more information, call 969-9622.

Race registration

The fifth annual Trailblazer Race, a 5K/10K run along the Stevens Creek Trail, is set for 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Charleston Park in Mountain View. There will also be a three-mile nature walk for those who don't run. Race-day registration starts at 7 a.m. and costs $24 for adults and $13 for those age 12 and under. Proceeds will be used to protect the Stevens Creek Trail and wildlife corridor. For more information, call 903-6067.
