Steiner, Finn for LAH Town Council

Editorial

It's hard to separate fact from reality among the claims of the four candidates running for Los Altos Hills Town Council. But there appear to be two prevailing sides: open space, controlled development (Jim Steiner, Dot Schreiner) vs. flexible building guidelines, improved communication (Toni Casey, Steve Finn).

We feel residents would be best served by both perspectives - which is why we are endorsing candidates Jim Steiner and Steve Finn for town council.

Steiner brings exceptional expertise in financial management to the council, having served for six years on the town's finance committee. Finn has put in two years on the town planning commission.

Their goals differ greatly. Steiner, for instance, wants to rebuild town hall. Finn sees that as a waste of money and feels the building needs some high-tech modifications. Still, both appear willing and able to build consensus and compromise to make decisions. We feel the give-and-take will make the council better.

Our only reservation with Finn is that he quit the planning commission due to work commitments. He says he has more time now, so we'll take him at his word.

Incumbent Casey and Schreiner are capable and knowledgeable candidates, but in Casey's case, she should practice what she preaches about term limits and move on. Schreiner has a long history of volunteer community service, but we feel Steiner brings more needed financial acumen to the council.
