Pumpkins for sports

The Los Altos High School Athletic Boosters will be selling pumpkins beginning this Friday in the school's parking lot, 201 Almond Ave. Proceeds will be used to help support the Los Altos High athletic program. The pumpkin patch will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Oct. 31.

'Heroes' on display

More than 20 sports celebrities plan to attend Halloween Heroes, a trick-or-treat party benefiting Palo Alto's Wender Weis Foundation for Children. The event will take place from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 27 at FAO Schwarz in San Francisco. Shawn Estes and Bill Mueller of the San Francisco Giants, Merton Hanks and R.W. McQuarters of the San Francisco 49ers and Eric Wynalda of the San Jose Clash are among those scheduled to appear. For ticket prices and more information, call (415) 551-2647.

Hitting the slopes

Sundancer Ski Club, a non-profit organization serving the Mid-Peninsula and South Bay, is recruiting new members for the 1998-99 ski season. Alpine and Nordic skiers and snow boarders are welcome. Scholarships offered

Athletic gear retailer Footaction USA is offering $100,000 in college scholarships to high school seniors who play sports. Applicants will be judged on the basis of financial need, class rank, standardized test scores and level of sports participation. The deadline for applications is Jan. 15, 1999. Get into the swing

Women golfers are invited to join the Deep Cliff Monday Ladies Golf Club. The group tees off at 8:30 a.m. every Monday (except holidays) at Deep Cliff, a par 60 golf course in Cupertino. Maximum score to qualify for membership is 99. For more information, call 323-2798.

Take a walk

Fifty-Plus Fitness Association is now hosting free weekly walks at 6 p.m. every Wednesday at the Nordstrom parking lot (San Hill Road entrance) in Palo Alto.
