It claims to be a "civic" organization, but its sponsors obviously wish to do away with town ordinances including pathways, restrictions on building design, the planning commission and many of the goals for which the town was established. Any change in town policies should be voted on by Los Altos Hills residents and not as the result of a private poll. The report about the denial of building site approval on the Kern's lot is misleading and untrue. It was denied for very good reasons and was opposed by many local neighbors. The main objection to the site is the visual impact of the building and excessive grading and large concrete retaining walls necessary for the drive. The town staff recommended denial, the planning commission and the council both denied it. The 21-acre lot, part of which is in a conservation easement, has an approved site lower down, but the Kerns keep coming back with proposed revisions for the upper site, which still does not make it acceptable. Liz Duveneck DanaLos Altos Hills More than just two issues My wife and I recently moved to Los Altos Hills, and I've been interested in the upcoming electoral race between Dot Schreiner, Pat Steiner, Steve Finn, and Tony Casey. I've attended both candidates' debates, and observed that apparently, Los Altos Hills is a two-issue town. Issues surrounding the planning commission and pathways consumed the entire debate. I know these are important issues, but I hope we can also prioritize some more mundane situations like getting the roads repaved, fixing broken telephone poles, cleaning up after last year's mudslides, removing brush along roadsides, and having more places to bring the kids for recreation.
