Homecoming parade in downtown MV

Mountain View High School will hold its annual homecoming parade at 9 a.m. Saturday on Castro Street in Mountain View. The homecoming football game against Fremont High will follow at 1 p.m. at Mountain View High.

The parade will feature the school's award-winning marching band, floats, the homecoming court and performances by various school groups.

Volunteers needed for Stanford program

Stanford's Educational Studies Program (ESP) is looking for community members to volunteer to teach motivated high school students through enrichment classes. Anyone who is interested in creating or implementing a class is welcome.

Opening ceremonies for two aquatic centers

Sacred Heart School in Atherton is celebrating the opening of its new aquatic center with a barbecue lunch, dedication ceremony and water polo exhibition starting at noon Nov. 8 at the school, 150 Valparaiso, Atherton.

St. Francis High School in Mountain View held a dedication ceremony in honor of the opening of its new Olympic-size pool Oct. 25 at the pool site. Several of the school's founding fathers will be present.

The 50-meter pool includes electronic touch pads and a state-of-the-art filtration system.

FUHSD hosts recognition dinner

The Fremont Union High Schools Foundation will host a Partners in Lifelong Learning Recognition Dinner Nov. 19 at DoubleTree Hotel in San Jose. The Foundation annually honors a corporate CEO or outstanding business leader whose leadership has resulted in significant contributions for local education.

Carl Guardino will be this year's corporate honoree and keynote speaker. He is the president and CEO of the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group.

Paul Fong, a Sunnyvale High School alumnus, a teacher, businessman, and community leader, will also be honored.

LA marching band hosts parent thank you

The Los Altos High School Marching Band will host its annual parent thank you at 11 a.m. Saturday at Los Altos High. The event will include a preview of the band's 1998 field show, "The Wizard of Oz."

A $2 donation is suggested.

Entries being accepted for Poster Contest

All high school students are invited to enter the ninth annual Christopher Poster Contest by Jan. 29, 1999.

To enter, each artist must illustrate his or her interpretation of the theme, "You can Make a Difference." Posters must be 15 by 20 inches and include the theme statement. Entries will be judged on impact, originality and artisitc merit.

Eight prizes will be awarded. First prize is $1,000.
