Twisters scored a 128.650 to beat Central Coast (128.575), Sunnyvale (128.10) and Menlo Park (83.725). Megan Purcell, Courtney Sinclair, Jennifer Tran and Shannon McConaghy earned all-around scores of at least 32.00 in the 11- and 12-year-old divisions to advance into the 1999 optional competitive levels. Trailblazer triumphs Yuri Smirnoff of Palo Alto was the overall winner of the Stevens Creek Trail Trailblazer Race Oct. 11 at Charleston Park in Mountain View. Smirnoff ran the 10K in 34 minutes and four seconds. Charles Alexander of Mountain View took 10th with a time of 37:57. The 5K race was won by David Rosen of Santa Cruz by clocking a 17:13, with Mountain View's Dwight Cornwell of Mountain View earning fifth with a 17:52. SOAR to the top The SOAR/Post Corner flag football team, which features Mountain View resident Mike Gregory, has qualified for the NFL Air It Out national finals. The team reached the championship round of the four-man tournament by beating KC Metro of Missouri 8-7 earlier this month. Other Post Corner team members include brothers Andy and Kelly Coan (graduates of Gunn High), plus Rich Anderson and Jon Braff of Palo Alto. Pumpkins for sports The Los Altos High School Athletic Boosters are still selling pumpkins in the school's parking lot at 201 Almond Ave. Proceeds will be used to help support the Los Altos High athletic program. The pumpkin patch is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Saturday. |
