Town Crier Staff Writer Girls Volleyball Wrap-Up os Altos High volleyball coach Jason Mansfield last week said his team needed to win 20 games to attain one of the top seeds in the Central Coast Section Div. II playoffs. The Eagles reached No. 20 last Saturday and won the Milpitas Spikefest II in the process. Los Altos went 6-0 in the tournament, improving to 20-8 overall. The Eagles beat Del Mar 17-15, 15-7 in the title game. Samantha Quintero, Mariah Pospisil, Lisa Rayden and Liz Rippetoe were voted to the all-tournament team. Earlier in the week, Los Altos beat Palo Alto and Lynbrook in SCVAL De Anza Division play to go to 5-4 in league. Meanwhile, St. Francis won the Panther Challenge at Presentation High last Saturday. The Lancers, ranked No. 1 in the nation, beat El Molino 15-8, 17-15 in the championship game. St. Francis (26-0) had four players selected to the all-tourney team: Stacy Millichap (MVP), Chrissy and Cindy Hirsch, and Julie Mariani. St. Francis also continued its dominance of the De Anza last week by cruising past Milpitas and Palo Alto in straight games. PSAL Pinewood moved closer to wrapping up the Private Schools Athletic League title last week with straight-game wins over Woodside Priory and Castilleja. The Panthers entered this week with a 9-0 league record (17-2 overall) and a two-game lead over Redwood Christian with three matches to play. Pinewood beat Castilleja 15-5, 15-13, 15-11 Oct. 21, as Lauren Smith-Hams had 10 kills and four aces. Sebnum Kimyacioglu added eight kills. SCVAL El Camino Gunn won its 14th-straight match last Thursday with a 15-7, 15-5, 15-3 whipping of Wilcox in Palo Alto. Titan sophomore Katy Tripp had five aces - including three to end the match. On Oct. 20, Gunn took care of host Homestead 15-17, 15-4, 15-8, 15-10. Jacqueline Heler had 11 kills and four aces for the Titans. The two wins improved Gunn to 10-0 in the SCVAL El Camino Division, 25-3 overall. Mountain View won its second league match of the season Oct. 20, edging visiting Fremont 15-11, 11-15, 15-9, 9-15, 15-7. Annie Tepe led the way with 13 kills, two aces and a block. The Spartans then fell to host Saratoga 15-3, 15-3, 15-7 Thursday, putting their record at 2-7 in the division, 4-19 overall. |
