The current mayor pro tem, Lou Becker, will be tapped for the one-year term. Following the council meeting the city staff and council members will host a reception honoring out-going mayor, Kris Casto, who has served for the past year. In Los Altos, protocol calls for those council members, who are elected at the same time, to serve as mayor beginning with the top vote getter. Francis La Poll, Casto and Becker were all elected to their first council term in 1995. The reception begins at 9 p.m. in the Los Altos Youth Center, behind City Hall, 1 N. San Antonio Road. The public is invited. Commission considers Sherwood plan The Los Altos Planning Commission will be considering the Sherwood Gateway Specific Plan at its meeting, 7:30 p.m. Thursday, in the City Hall Chambers. The item of concern surfacing out of this plan was a housing density question. The city's general plan calls for a density of 38 units per acre; the task force was recommending seven units per acre; and a staff proposal suggested 20 units per acre. This meeting is a follow-up from an Oct. 1 work session. Public hearings were held in August and September and were closed at a Sept. 3 planning commission meeting. The meeting is open to the public. - Joanne Griffith Domingue |
