Sheila Alesi, a teacher at Whisman School in Mountain View, was among the 26 teachers countywide to be recogized as Teacher of the Year at the 29th Annual Teacher Recognition Day last month at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts.

David W. Daines, son of Barbara and John Daines of Los Altos, enrolled at Claremont McKenna College this fall. A graduate of Homestead High School, he is currently studying literature and economics at McKenna.

Los Altos residents Sara LaBoskey, Andrea Mann and Nima Soltanzad and Los Altos Hills residents Dominique Alepin and Nicole Mans were among the 40 Castilleja School students to be honored with Advanced Placement Scholar Awards.

Only 13 percent of the 635,000 students who took the AP examinations last May earned such a recognition.
