From all reports, the city council is strong and working well as a team. A new city manager is in place and garnering rave reviews. A fully functioning planning commission has been tackling tough issues and handling big projects, from the Tree Farm to the Sherwood Gateway. But this wasn't so a year go. Last November, the word "dysfunction" cropped up in many conversations about the state of affairs at city hall. The Casto year became one of healing, of building, setting a stage for folks being able to get on with the city's business. And they have. Now an affordable housing ordinance is in place. Task forces are tackling tough issues like city traffic and residential design guidelines. Three new police officers dedicated to traffic enforcement will be hitting the streets in 1999. And an outside consultant has completed a review of the public works department. We see a strong, healthy city hall. And we want to say thanks, Kris Casto. |
