Town Crier Staff Report

The year 1948 was the start of the baby boom, and a bottle of Coke was only a nickel and the nation was hearing songs like "Buttons and Bows," "Lavender Blue" and "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo."

The Los Altos Town Choir presents its second annual "Hit Parade Night" with the hit songs of 1948 at 8 p.m., this Saturday, at the Los Altos Youth Center. Dick Henning will be master of ceremonies.

The special occasion is a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Los Altos Rotary Club and a salute to Veterans Day with patriotic songs.

There will be audience participation in songs like "Baby Face" and "I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover" and saxophone and piano solos by local musicians.

Refreshments include free wine, soft drinks, snacks, and pieces of the 50th anniversary Rotary birthday cake. After the singing, the floor will open to dancing to the songs of the 1940s and 1950s with disk jockey Lance Leber.

Cost is $35 per person by mail, or $40 at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Los Altos History House and the Rotary 50 Anniversary Fund.
