Girls Tennis Report

t the rate she's going, Lena Sherbakov will graduate from Los Altos High with four league titles in girls tennis. The sophomore last week claimed the SCVAL De Anza Division singles crown for the second straight year.

And she made it look so easy. Sherbakov won her three matches in straight sets, never losing more than two games in a match.

She cruised past Monta Vista's Liora Gelbum 6-2, 6-0 in the final, held Nov. 4 at Cuesta Park. Earlier that day, Sherbakov whipped Gunn's Christine Feng 6-0, 6-2 in the semifinals..

"There was no competition for Lena this year," said Los Altos coach Cuong Duong.

Sherbakov's 17-0 record should garner her one of the top spots in the Central Coast Section Individual Championships, set for Nov. 23-24 at Courtside Tennis Club in Los Gatos.

But Sherbakov may not take part in CCS. Duong said she may be competing in a junior national tournament that week.

St. Francis' Emily Najour and Laura Boskovich should be at CCS, though. They teamed up to win the De Anza's doubles crown with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over a duo from Monta Vista.

CCS team playoffs

St. Francis and Los Altos have qualified for the CCS team playoffs. Los Altos, seeded 13th, hosted No. 20 Mitty yesterday. The winner plays at No. 4 Saratoga at 2:30 p.m. today.

No. 5 St. Francis earned a first-round bye and hosts the winner of Burlingame-Presentation at 2:30 p.m. today.
