Thanks also to local resident Virginia Carlsen for her kind words in the San Jose Mercury Nov. 5 about our band. Music students put in long hours of practice preparing for competition, and we were pleased to have the opportunity to present our show to friends who may not be able to travel to see the band perform. We hope the community will continue to support our performing arts program by attending performances throughout the year. Performances are announced in the Town Crier school briefs and a performing arts calendar is available by contacting Los Altos High School. Betsy Fowler, presidentLAHS Band Boosters American Legion thanked by Girl Scouts On behalf of the Girl Scouts in the Los Altos area, we would like to thank the Los Altos American Legion Post No. 558 for generous support of Girl Scouting in Los Altos. Your support will make a significant difference in the programs we will be able to offer and, as a result, in the vitality of the Girl Scout program in our community. The number of girls registered in our service unit (the Los Altos area) has grown from approximately 550 in 1995-96 to 950 in 1998-99, giving our service unit the highest participation rate in Santa Clara County. Your support will encourage youth and adults to become more familiar with the American Legion and its goals. Active citizenship and community service is an important aspect of Girl Scouting. Meg SoleraGirl Scouts of Santa Clara County Graffiti cleanup applauded I think the city is right to clean up graffiti and debris. The graffiti looks disgusting. Graffiti usually is gang related. I think that it is irresponsible not to control the gang graffiti and debris. So, therefore, I agree that the city should clean it up and bill the owners. Alex G. Lee-Nakayama Los Altos |
