"A Dialogue on Racial Understanding" features inspiring speakers, facilitated small group discussions, and opportunities for action on fighting racism in Silicon Valley. Organizers said an integral part of the series is the opportunity for the community to engage in discussions, consider different points of view on race, explore disagreements and discover common ground. The forums are free and open to the public, and will be held in Hidden Villa's Visitors Welcome Center from 3-5:30 p.m. Space is limited and advance registration is required. One forum, "Voices of Diversity," was held Oct. 18, featuring perspectives on racial understanding in Silicon Valley. Upcoming forums are: "Building Awareness," Jan. 10, 1999. The "Isms" workshop, an experiential workshop used by Hidden Villa Camp, which has a 54-year tradition of developing racial harmony, will allow participants to identify and challenge racial stereotypes and build an understanding of how racial stereotypes permeate our conscious and unconscious. After this session, participants will have the opportunity to sign up for study circles. "A Call to Action," March 28, 1999. A panel of community leaders will discuss opportunities to get involved in the fight against racism. Small group discussions will focus on ideas that we can take as individuals, in groups and as a community to face the challenge of racism and make racial understanding a reality.
