A call to help hurricane victims in Central America

The Los Altos Town Crier urges all readers to consider a gift to help the surviving victims of the Hurricane Mitch in Central America. Workers at relief agencies said the best and quickest way to help them is with money. Here are three recommended agencies we have checked:

World Vision, P.O. Box 78481, Tacoma, Wash. 98481-8481. Phone: (888) 511-6565. Organizers said 100 percent of the money donated goes directly to aid the devastated - none is used for overhead.

Doctors Without Borders, phone: (310) 277-2793. Large emergency effort under way with teams in Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua and El Salvador. Organizers said $500 provides medical supplies for 2,500 persons for a month.
