Egan to hold holiday fair

Egan Middle School will hold its annual Holiday Faire from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Dec. 11 in the school's multi-use room, 100 W. Portola Avenue.The fair will feature gourmet delicacies and hand-crafted items made by students.

The Book Faire will be held in conjunction with the Holiday Faire. All book sale proceeds will benefit the school's library.

Clothing needed for holiday drive

The Los Altos-Mountain View Parent/Teacher Association Council will hold its annual Holiday Drive in support of Community Services Agency from Nov. 30 to Dec. 16.

The drive will benefit about 950 needy families in Mountain View and Los Altos.

Collection boxes will be placed at local schools. Needed items include new pajamas in sizes for newborns to age 12; new toys, dolls, games, Lego blocks and balls; repairable children's bicycles.

Teen items include toiletries, gift certificates, grooming supplies, radios and watches. Grocery scrip, money donations and food items are also needed.

All gifts should be unwrapped and in gift-giving condition.

Toy and pajama distribution to families begins Dec. 12. Food items are distributed year round.

Holiday book fair at Bullis-Purissima

Bullis-Purissima School in Los Altos Hills will hold a holiday book fair from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 8-11 at the school's multipurpose room, 25890 Fremont Road. In addition to the regular event hours, the fair will be open from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 10 for family night, which will include refreshments.

All proceeds will benefit the school's main library and individual classroom libraries. For more information, call 949-1381.

Food program at Foothill

Children of students who intend to enroll at Foothill College Winter Quarter may apply for the Child Care Food Program that the school's Children's Center sponsors.

The program is available without charge to all eligible participants. Children enrolled in the program are served the same meals at no separate charge. Meals are provided by the San Francisco-based Spice of Life Caterers, Inc.

Duracell/NSTA holds scholarship competition

Duracell and the National Science Teachers Association are holding the 17th annual Duracell/ NSTA Scholarship Competition for students in grades 6 through 12. More than $160,000 prizes will be awarded.

All contestants must design and build devices that are educational, useful or entertaining and powered by one or more Duracell batteries. Judging is based on creativity, practicality, energy efficiency of the invention and clarity of the written description.

Plant sale at Foothill

Poinsettias, wreaths, ferns, house plants, herbs and bromeliads are just a few of the items weekend gardeners can purchase at the Foothill College Winter Plant Sales slated from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nov. 21 and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dec. 2 in the college's Ornamental Horticulture Complex, 12345 El Monte Road in Los Altos Hills.

Scholarship money available to students

The National Academic Funding Advisory is offering an updated catalogue for students that clarifies academic funding guidelines and ways to step through the maze of the financial aid process.

According to financial experts, there are more than 375,000 non-governemnt scholarship and grant sources currently available, which do not have to be paid back.
