Festival of Lights Parade seeks financial support

The 21st annual Festival of Lights Parade, to be held 7 p.m. this Sunday, is solely supported by donations from Los Altos residents and businesses.

Organizers said donations are "gratefully accepted" at P.O. Box 1996, Los Altos 94023.

Holiday happenings for newcomers

The Los Altos/Los Altos Hills Newcomers Club will have a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 9 at Prima Strada restaurant in Los Altos. For reservations call 494-7056 by Dec. 3. Another event will be the TGIF (wine and cheese party) on Dec. 4. Please call 948-5027 for information on this event. Newcomers welcomes residents who have moved here within the last two years. Other activities the group enjoys are book groups, bridge, tennis and golf. For membership information, call 917-8034.

Wine author at history center

Wine historian Charles Sullivan will be present for a book signing at a holiday open house, set for 7-9 p.m., Dec. 3, at the California History Center in the Trianon Building at De Anza College, Cupertino.

Sullivan will be signing copies of his latest, "A Companion to California Wine: An Encyclopedia of Wine and Winemaking from the Mission Period to the Present."

History House seeks docents

History House of Los Altos seeks volunteer docents to work one day every two months on Wednesday or Saturday afternoon. An informal orientation coffee will be held at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 9 at History House, which is located in the Civic Center, behind the Main Library, 51 S. San Antonio Road. Information about the next docent training will be available. Reserve by Dec. 4, by calling 948-9427.

Los Altos-Los Altos Hills volunteer service awards

The 16th annual Los Altos/Los Altos Hills Community Volunteer Service Awards luncheon will be Dec. 4, at the Los Altos Youth Center, 1 N. San Antonio Road.

The focus is on recognizing individuals who work in local organizations, often receiving little or no notice for their efforts.

Activities begin at 11:45 a.m. The cost is $20. Make checks payable to Volunteer Awards Committee and send to P.O. Box 1851, Los Altos, 94023 no later than this Friday. For more information, call 968-6146.

Holiday storytelling and magic in MV

Artist Leslie Friedman will lead a storytelling and magic performance for children in a celebration of a holiday season spanning all cultures.

The "Festival of Lights" performance is set for 10:15-10:45 a.m., Dec. 5, at the Mountain View public library, 585 Franklin St.
