Hearing evaluations offered by Pacific Hearing

Pacific Hearing Service is donating proceeds from hearing evaluations Thursday and Tuesday to the Mountain View-based Community Services Agency. The evaluations, which cost $160, will be given at the hearing center, 496 First St., Los Altos. The testing will take about an hour.

Insurance companies will not be billed for the evaluations. Checks should be made out to the Community Service Agency, which helps needy area residents. The donation is not tax-deductible.

Anyone interested in having their hearing checked on one of those two days should call Pacific Hearing Service to make an appointment, at 941-0664.

Twelve Acres memories sought

The oral history program of the Los Altos History House Museum is looking for current or past residents with personal memories or historic records of Twelve Acres, Inc., from 1924 to 1970, and prior to the fire in 1960.

The original Twelve Acres mansion was located at the Adobe Creek end of Pine Lane.

'Great Decisions' lectures announced

The Los Altos Main Library, the local Leagues of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women are presenting another year of "Great Decisions" discussions, beginning Feb. 1, 1999.

"Great Decisions," sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association, includes a briefing booklet that is the foundation of the series. The books will be available for distribution in January and cost $15. For those who want to attend but don't want to purchase the book, copies will be available at the library.

Topics include the information age, the Asian financial crisis, Latin America and the U.S. role in the United Nations.

The discussions are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon, every Monday in February and March, with the exception of Feb. 15. Lectures are held in the Community Room of the Los Altos Main Library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.

Hidden Villa tribute to Josephine

Hidden Villa, an environmental farm and educational center in Los Altos Hills, is planning a night to remember founder Josephine Duveneck to commemorate the 20th anniversary of her death.

Holiday volunteers needed at CSA

Volunteer elves and holiday helpers are needed to donate their time and help to the Mountain View-based Community Services Agency annual holiday sharing program.

Help is needed to sort and organize holiday food for distribution to low-income families, through Dec. 23, or help in the holiday toy store Dec. 7 through 31. Shifts are 9 a.m. to noon and 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some weekend opportunities are available.

San Jose Cleveland Ballet comes to Los Altos library

The San Jose Cleveland Ballet has announced the dates and venues for its free Dance Dialogues educational lecture series on its five ballet programs for the 1998-99 season.

The next installment in the educational series centers on the collaboration of choreographer and composer for "Free Radicals" at 1 p.m., Feb. 6, in the Los Altos library.

The day in the life of a touring dancer in "Daddy O" and "Blue Suede Shoes" will be at 1 p.m., April 17, in the Los Altos library.

History House Museum opens radio exhibit

An exhibit featuring early radio history recently opened at the Los Altos History House Museum and will continue through the holiday season.

The role and history of local inventors and radio is emphasized in this collection of radios and photographs of their inventors, on loan from private collector Norman Rehbein of Los Altos and from the Perham Foundation Electronics Museum collection.

The History House Museum is located behind the Los Altos Library on San Antonio Road and is open Saturdays and Wednesdays from noon to 4 p.m.

Alto-View Newcomers

The Alto-View Newcomers' Club, a nonprofit organization serving families in both Los Altos and Mountain View, regularly sponsors a variety of activities, including wine tastings, moms and tots get-togethers, a book club and tennis and pot luck dinners.
