li Shafie is off to a fast start in his first season as Los Altos High girls soccer coach.

The Eagles entered the week undefeated, winning three games and tying another.

"So far so good," said Shafie, who recently moved to the area from Oklahoma. "I have good kids and they are a lot of fun to work with."

Los Altos notched its third win last Thursday, a 1-0 decision against visiting San Mateo. Freshman Minh Dang scored the game winner for the Eagles.

Dang is one of four freshmen starting for the Eagles. There are only seven seniors on the 21-member team, and Shafie said two of them - Sabrina Pourmand and Alison Eckert - are his top players.

Shafie, who once competed at the semipro level, said he likes the mix of players he has. And Los Altos athletic director Monica Lodge said Shafie is doing a fine job coaching them.

"He's working out well," Lodge said "He's a good match."

The Eagles hope to continue their winning ways in league competition. Los Altos opened SCVAL De Anza Division play yesterday at Saratoga and hosts Milpitas at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow.
