Gloria Shiff will be displaying sculptures. Aris Balmori will be displaying ink paintings. The public is invited to a reception for the artists from 2-4 p.m. Jan. 10 in the town chambers located at 26379 Fremont Road, Los Altos Hills. Shiff, an artist for more than 35 years who has worked at San Jose State University, works from her Los Altos Hills studio. Recently she won an award for her work with Venetian glass. Balmori admires Zen-like calligraphy and graphics and is conscious of the impact of black ink combined with grays. For more information, call 941-7222. CSA needs holiday volunteers Volunteer elves and holiday helpers are needed to donate their time and help with the Community Services Agency's annual holiday sharing program. Help is needed to sort and organize holiday food for distribution to low-income families through today, or to help in the holiday toy store through Dec. 31. Santa daily in Los Altos A 40-year tradition continues this year with Santa Claus at Rancho Shopping Center in Los Altos. He is there today and Christmas Eve, noon to 4 p.m. Rancho merchants invite the public to "bring the kids and camera." There is no photo concession at Rancho, but nearby Rancho Camera Center can provide photo services a day ahead of the visit. Call 948-7456 for details. Rancho Shopping Center is located on Foothill Expressway at Springer and Magdalena roads. 'Great Decisions' lectures announced The Los Altos main library, the local Leagues of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women are presenting another year of "Great Decisions" discussions, beginning Feb. 1, 1999. "Great Decisions," sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association, includes a briefing booklet that is the foundation of the series. The books will be available for distribution in January and cost $15. For those who want to attend but don't want to purchase the book, copies will be available at the library. Topics include the Information Age, the Asian financial crisis, Latin America and the U.S. role in the United Nations. The discussions are scheduled 10 a.m. to noon, every Monday in February and March, with the exception of Feb. 15. Lectures are held in the Community Room of the Los Altos Main Library, 13 S.
