A winter volunteer training class for MidPeninsula Hospice Services begins 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., this coming Tuesday. The first session is an introduction to hospice and the volunteer role.
Subsequent sessions are designed to train volunteers interested in supporting hospice patients and their families. Course instructors include staff and volunteers from MidPeninsula Hospice Services.

Library seeks artists to display original art
The Los Altos Library Arts Committee invites artists to submit their original artwork from 3 to 6 p.m., Friday, in the library program room. Exhibits will not include photography or textiles.
All original art must be framed, wired to hang, and a minimum size of 9-by-12 inches. Jurying will take place Saturday and artists must pick up art works promptly on Saturday between 4 and 5:45 p.m.

Sustainability subject of League meeting
Building a sustainable community will be the subject of a public workshop sponsored by the Los Altos-Mountain View League of Women Voters, 2-5 p.m. Jan. 10, in the Los Altos library program room at 13 S. San Antonio Road, Los Altos.
The League is responding to a proposed action policy by the California League of Women Voters to link League positions with long-range goals and objectives that support the principles of sustainability.
Responding to the state League is restricted to League members, but input on the concept of how to build a sustainable community is welcomed. The public is invited.

Rose pruning workshop this Saturday
The annual Redwood Grove Nature Preserve rose pruning workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday at the Redwood Grove in Los Altos.
Consulting rosarians from the Santa Clara County Rose Society will prune the preserve rose garden in demonstration for the workshop and will advise on all aspects of rose care, fertilization, watering and blight control.
Rosarians Virginia Masero, Barbara Gordon, Lynett and John Petrula will conduct the demonstrations, sponsored by the Los Altos Parks and Recreation Department. The workshop is free.
Warm clothing and boots are advised. All visitors to the preserve should park on University Avenue and walk into the grounds. The rose garden is beyond the nature building.
