Hoops at St. Nicholas

St. Nicholas School in Los Altos Hills will hold the 26th annual St. Nicholas Invitational Basketball Tournament this weekend. Boys teams from eight schools will take part in the tourney, including St. Simon of Los Altos and St. Joseph of Mountain View. Games begin at 4 p.m. Friday, with the last game of the day scheduled for 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, games begin at noon, with the last contest of the day set for 4:30 p.m. The Sunday schedule of games starts at 11 a.m., with the championship set for 2:45 p.m. A ticket to a day's worth of games is $2.50 for adults, $2 for children. Weekend passes are priced at $6 for adults, $4 for children. St. Nicholas is at 12816 S. El Monte Ave.

Akido classes offered

Classes in Akido, a non-competitive Japanese martial art, will be offered to teen-age women starting next week at the YWCA of the Mid-Peninsula, 4161 Alma St., Palo Alto. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 12 to Feb. 18, from 5-6 p.m. Fee is $60. For more information, call 494-0972.

Play ball

Little League baseball sign-ups for those age 16 and under start this weekend. Los Altos-Los Altos Hills Little League will hold its sign-ups from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday and Jan. 16, plus 5-8 p.m. Jan. 13 at the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.
