Men lose at Skyline

Jody Craig said she couldn't have been more proud of her Foothill College women's basketball team after a Dec. 29 game against Canyons.

Although the Owls lost the contest 85-80, the coach was thrilled with the effort of her players.

"It was a good loss if there is such a thing," Craig said. "We never quit and played with a lot of heart against a good, athletic team."

Canyons jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game and led by 16 points late in the first half.

However, Foothill, which played with just eight players, refused to surrender.

The Owls stepped up their defense in the second half, according to Craig, whittling the deficit down to three points with about a minute left. And they had a chance to tie with 38 seconds remaining, but Ekuah Ramsey's three-point shot from NBA range failed to draw iron.

Ramsey wound up with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Foothill was led by Jennifer Tsang's 32 points.

The loss, which occurred in the third round of the De Anza Classic, dropped the Owls' record to 9-8 overall.

The Foothill men's basketball team last Sunday dropped a 74-71 decision to host Skyline.

The Owls were led by O.J. Longmire and Tony Ara, who poured in 17 points apiece. Reggie Cooks chipped in 14 points.

Foothill fell to 8-9 on the season.
