The Eagles are set to host Cupertino at 6:30 p.m. in the school's main gym. That's right, the main gym, which has been undergoing renovations since last spring. Los Altos athletic director Monica Lodge hopes the bleachers will be installed by Thursday, but said the match will go on even if they aren't done. That's good news for Los Altos coach Nick Testa, who naturally prefers his team to wrestle in the friendly confines of Los Altos - especially in a match of this magnitude. Thursday's winner will likely go on to capture the division crown, according to Testa. The Eagles took care of host Saratoga 49-18 last Thursday, improving their overall record to 14-2. Los Altos dominated the match by winning 10 weight classes. Winners included Andrew Bagley (119 pounds), Cesar Valle (125), Aaron Kash (130), Ian Bailey (135), Matt Young (140), Sonny Mohammadzadeh, Matt Charles (152), Chris Mazurkiewicz, Anthony Davis (215) and Tom West (heavyweight). Testa singled out Mohammadzadeh and Charles as having particularly good matches. "Sonny looked really good," Testa said. "He pinned Jeff Stanley in the third period. Charles pinned his guy, too." St. Francis beat visiting Mitty 43-30 in West Catholic Athletic League action Jan. 12. The Lancers won eight weight classes on the evening. Gunn dropped a 52-17 decision to Lynbrook Jan. 11 in Palo Alto. The loss put the Titans at 0-2 in the SCVAL El Camino Division. |
