Los Altos Hillview Center chosen as millennium celebration site

Plans for a special millennium eve celebration for the residents of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills continue to gain momentum. At last weeks' meeting of the executive committee that is planning the affair, leaders decided to stage the "night to remember" in a large tent city to be erected in the Hillview Center area of downtown Los Altos.

Planners discarded earlier consideration of staging the event in the Main Street area in favor of Hillview because of space requirements, and traffic and business interruption issues.

Next in the process is work with city staff to get a permit for the celebration.

Described as a family night to appeal to all age groups, the event will include tents for black tie dinners, family dinners, professional and local entertainment and other activities to be announced.

Details for a midnight extravaganza Dec. 31 are under wraps. But according to Rick Herns, whose production company is staging the event, the midnight experience will launch the first seconds of Jan. 1, 2000, with a "bang."

Los Altos millennium organizers expect to begin ticket sales for reservations in early spring 1999.

The planners welcome ideas and support. For more information, call 941-0786.
