The Los Altos City Council awarded City Manager Phil Rose a $5,000 raise following a six-month performance review in a closed council session on Jan. 19.
"The council is very happy with Phil," said Los Altos Mayor Lou Becker. "He's doing a marvelous job."
Rose began as Los Altos city manager June 3, 1998 and has been having quarterly evaluations, Rose said.
His salary will increase from $105,000 to $110,000.
Finance director search begins second time
The four finalists for the position of Los Altos finance director were eliminated "for personal issues," said Los Altos City Manager Phil Rose. All had been judged "very good" last November by the screening panel, he said.
So "We'll go out and recruit again," Rose said in a Jan. 20 interview.
Meanwhile, as the city moves into budget time, they will hire some help, Rose said.
During the first search more than 30 applied for the position that could pay up to $96,000, said Layne Long, assistant to the city manager.
The city's previous finance director, Sherry Lambach, died last July.
$20,000 Packard grant awarded to Los Altos
The city of Los Altos has received a $20,000 grant from the Los Altos-based Packard Foundation for a capital campaign feasibility and implementation study for recreational facilities in Los Altos, said City Manager Phil Rose.
The Packard Foundation contributed $1.3 million to help the city buy the 5.5-acre 401 Rosita site in 1996. Now the city is looking ahead to development of the property and will use the money for a consultant to examine capital campaign possibilities.
The first phase of development at 401 Rosita began this month, with the demolition of the convent and classrooms to make way for turf and playing fields.
