If the Los Altos High wrestling team is going to capture the SCVAL De Anza Division title outright, it's going to need some help.

The Eagles are currently sharing first place with Cupertino, a team they tied 32-all last Thursday at Los Altos.

To avoid finishing the season this way, the Eagles need to win their final two matches and hope the Pioneers drop one of their remaining two.

There's a distinct possibility that could happen, according to Los Altos coach Nick Testa, because Cupertino travels to second-place Monta Vista tonight.

"They're a good team," Testa said of Monta Vista, a squad Los Altos edged earlier in the season. "I think they can beat (Cupertino), and we'll be there rooting them on."

The Eagles next task will involve taking care of their own business. They host Los Gatos at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow and then close out division competition Feb. 4 at Fremont.

Testa hopes to have his team back at full strength for both matches. Standout Matt Charles missed the Cupertino match with an elbow injury and was also held out of last Saturday's Albany Tournament. Sonny Mohammadzadeh and Noble Millie didn't compete at Albany due to injuries and Ian Bailey suffered a concussion in Saturday's final round.

Despite the injuries, the Eagles still managed to take second at the tourney. Los Altos placed nine of their 10 competitors and won three weight classes. Winners included Bailey (135 pounds), Cesar Valle (125) and Anthony Davis (215). Davis pinned all four of his opponents and earned MVP honors.

John Adams was the lone St. Francis wrestler to place at the Mid-California Tournament last Saturday in Gilroy. Adams took third in the 217-pound division.

Gunn picked up its first win of the season Jan. 20, beating SCVAL El Camino Division rival Palo Alto 42-30. Gunn winners included MaCurdy brothers Troy (130) and Sean (145).
