Town Crier Staff Report

Los Altos Hills Planning Commission attendance, or lack of it, has prompted a town council review of attendance records.

Adding to the attendance problem is commissioner Dick Aurelio's decision to resign, citing commitments on the East Coast with his company. The council is expected to accept Aurelio's resignation at tonight's meeting.

The council members agreed Jan. 20 to review commission attendance after approving a St. Nicholas School request to add 3,688 square feet for a science classroom and expanded day care.

The request came to the council without a recommendation from the town's planning commission. Planning Director Curtis Williams said that the commission was scheduled to review the request on two occasions, "but did not have a quorum at either meeting (only three commissioners were present and Commissioner (Emily) Cheng had to recuse herself due to the proximity of her residence to the site)."

Records showed Aurelio with the most absences this past year. Aurelio noted "unrelenting time constraints I now face as a result of Varian Semiconductor Equipment becoming an independent public company."

Among the items at tonight's council meeting is a discussion and prioritization of town goals and objectives. The goals involve the areas of planning, public works and engineering.

Tonight's meeting is set for 7 p.m., at town hall, 26379 Fremont Road.
