Foothill celebrates history month

Foothill College in Los Altos Hills will kickoff African-American History Month with a celebration from noon to 1 p.m., today in the Campus Center Lounge. Student trustee Malcolm Harvey will be the featured speaker.

The month-long celebration will also include a Hip-Hop Generation Showcase on Saturday; the Dallas Black Dance Theatre Performance on Feb. 19; and a gospel concert on Feb. 27.

De Anza hosts disability forum

De Anza College will be hosting a Disability Forum from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Feb. 5 at the Hinson Campus Center, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino.

NASA scientists chat with students

Students will get the opportunity to chat with NASA's African-American scientists over the Internet during February Black History Month.

Chats will take place from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., Feb. 9; noon to 1 p.m., Feb. 11, 17 and 18; 10-11 a.m., Feb. 24; and 9-10 a.m., Feb. 25.

Harker holds open house

Harker School is holding open houses for its lower and middle schools Sunday. Students in grades K-4 will meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 4300 Bucknall Road in San Jose. Students in grades 5-8 will meet from 2-4 p.m. at 500 Saratoga Ave. in San Jose.

Pre-registration for LASD students

Pre-registration for fall 1999-2000 kindergarten classes in the Los Altos School District will begin at 7 a.m., Thursday at Almond, Bullis, Loyola, Oak, Santa Rita and Springer schools.

To be eligible for next year's kindergarten, children must be 5 years old on or before Dec.2, 1999, and parents must pre-register their children at their neighborhood school.

Armadillo Willy's holds fund-raiser

Armadillo Willy's, 1031 N. San Antonio Road in Los Altoss will donate a portion of its proceeds from this Monday night to the Los Altos High School Athletic Facilities Fund in support of the construction of the school's new 25-foot, 30-meter pool.

Organizers said they hope to raise $150,000 before the pool's completion this fall. A spokeswoman said they have raised about $30,000.

Willy's is among four local restaurants to host a Monday night profit-sharing dinners. Chef Chu's, 1067 N. San Antonio Road, will host the next dinner March 1.
