These are the people who volunteer in the community continuously, giving their time, leadership, experience and heart. Members of the Los Altos-Mountain View District of the Peninsula West Valley Association of Realtors are looking for such a person as efforts are under way to name this year's Community Service Award winner. Realtors invite local residents to nominate individuals they think are deserving of the honor. Candidates cannot be members of PenWest. All nominations must be submitted no later than April 1, to the Peninsula West Valley Association of Realtors, 321 Second St., Los Altos 94022. In its 36th year, the event is meant to honor a person or persons who best contributed in a meaningful way to the quality, spirit and character of the communities of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. The traditional award, punctuated by an annual awards luncheon, began in 1964. Former Los Altos mayor Roy Dunnett was the first recipient and he continues to live in Los Altos to this day. Marge Bruno, another former mayor, was awarded the honor last year. In 1997, the Los Altos Town Crier began co-sponsoring the event with the local Realtors, providing publicity and support for the event. The Town Crier staff is not involved in the selection of the winner, however. Lissi Bedford of Seville Properties again heads up this year's selection committee. This year's winner will be honored at a Community Service Award Luncheon May 5 at Michael's at Shoreline in Mountain View. The luncheon is open to the public. For more information or luncheon reservations, call Shannon Elam at 949-9115. The Peninsula West Valley Association of Realtors is a 2,800-member real estate trade association and homeowner advocacy group serving Silicon Valley and the Mid-Peninsula. |
