Card party celebrates Valentine's Day The American Association of University Women is celebrating Valentine's Day with a card party beginning 1 p.m., Saturday, at the Los Altos Youth Center, 1 N. San Antonio Road. This activity, which is open to residents, will support Los Altos-Mountain View projects, including a scholarship for a local seventh and eighth grade girl to the AAUW Tech Trek Stanford Summer Camp. Garden club to meet Cheriel Jensen, a renowned professional photographer and architect, will be guest speaker at the next meeting of the Garden Club of Los Altos. The program is scheduled for 1 p.m., Feb. 23, in the Creekside Room of the United Methodist Church, 655 Magdalena Ave., Los Altos. Jensen, an exceptional gardener, garden historian and designer, will give an in-depth talk on how to design with color in the garden. The public is cordially invited to attend. Admission is $5. Los Altos Masons plan dinner programs Los Altos Masonic Lodge is sponsoring a series of after-dinner programs during 1999, and the public is invited. The presentations will be held in the downstairs dining room of the Lodge, at 146 Main St. Programs will be held on the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Plans for the year include fire prevention and safety, earthquake preparedness, first aid, and the kids identification program, sponsored by the California Masonic Grand Lodge. CSA honors 'hometown hero' The Community Services Agency of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Mountain View will be hosting a Valentine's Day breakfast to honor its 1999 "hometown hero," executive director Tom Pamilla. Dick Henning, the founder of Celebrity Forum I and II, will be the event's guest speaker. The breakfast will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m., Thursday, at Hyatt Rickey's in Palo Alto. League focus on local communities The League of Women Voters of the Los Altos-Mountain View area will host the second in a series of public workshops this Sunday, called "Building Sustainable Communities: Turning Concerns Into Action." Foundation presents 'Heart of Community' The Los Altos Community Foundation has scheduled its 1999 Heart of the Community Valentine Gala in the newly renovated Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel ballroom, formerly the Hyatt Cabana. The Foundation's third annual event will be held on Saturday. It begins at 7 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres and progresses to dinner, with dancing to follow. Black tie is optional.
