And like most wars, one side had to lose. That side happened to be Foothill, which fell 74-66. "That was a real battle," Petersen said. "Both teams played very hard from start to finish." The game went back and forth in the first half, with host Chabot clinging to a 34-32 lead at intermission. The Owls fell further behind in the second half, trailing by 11 points with 10 minutes to go. Foothill then fought back with a run of its own that produced a two-point edge with three minutes remaining. But Chabot refused to fold. "They went up one with 47 seconds left," Petersen said, "then we missed a shot and they hit a huge three-pointer." Chabot extended its lead on free throws, as the Owls had to foul to kill the clock. Foothill (3-3 conference, 13-12 overall), had two players score in double figures. Jimmy White poured in 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Randall Powell scored 13 points. Women's basketball Foothill hasn't had the best of luck playing at Hartnell, and coach Jody Craig reminded her team of that before last Friday's game. "I told the kids it was going to be a seven-on-five game because we would be up against their team and the officials," Craig said. "I've never felt we've had a fair game called there." That didn't change Friday, Craig said, but the Owls still came away with an 80-59 win. Foothill freshman Ekuah Ramsey led the way with 16 points, 10 rebounds, 10 steals and five assists. Stacey Hanstad also scored 16 points, while Shawna McGlennon tallied 12 and Line Kongeskov 10. On Feb. 3, the Owls (8-2, 17-10) routed visiting San Francisco City 62-36. Pacing Foothill was Ramsey (11 points, 10 rebounds) and Kongeskov (11 points, four assists). Hanstad and McGlennon added 10 points apiece. |
