ZYT Galerie in Los Altos claims the state's largest collection of Luigi Kasimir etchings and owner Ralph Doerr plans to prove it in an exhibition running Thursday through March 13.

Known as a pioneer in colored etchings - the art of printing each etching in its many colors rather than the standard black-and-white method - Kasimir has enjoyed critical and popular acclaim. The Austrian artist died in 1962, but not before passing along his skills to wife Tanna and son Robert, also artists in their own right.

Also exhibited at ZYT will be works by Josef Eidenberger and Herta Czoernig. The gallery is located at 923 N. San Antonio Road. For more information, call 948-6770.

Avonell Gilliland Urch, a Los Altos resident, has an exhibition of her watercolors currently going on at Gallery Saratoga, 14531 Big Basin Way, No. 3. "Avie," as she likes to be called, said her rice paper collages and watercolors are represented in private collections all over the world. For more information, call (408) 867-0458.

Packard Art Studio in Los Altos is readying for an 11-artist exhibition beginning March 5 on the fourth floor of Mountain View City Hall, 500 Castro St. Owner Jean Packard said the exhibit will comprise paintings, pen-and-ink drawings, charcoal and pastel works and sculpture.

Carol Hake is showing a group of landscapes she painted in France last year at Gallery 9, 143 Main St., in Los Altos. Hake was one of 10 local artists on a Neighbors Abroad exchange with Palo Alto's sister city, Albi. A reception for the artist is scheduled for 5:30-8 p.m., March 4, at the gallery. For more information, call 941-7969.

Viewpoints Gallery in Los Altos is offering "Playing with Paint," watercolors in a variety of styles, by Floy Zittin. The exhibition runs March 1 to April 2 at the gallery, 315 State St. A Zittin reception is scheduled for 2-5 p.m., March 6. For more information, call 941-5789.
