Trip scheduled to Disneyland

The Los Altos Recreation Department is hosting its seventh annual spring break trip to Disneyland from April 12-16, which has been coordinated to take place during the Los Altos School District's spring break.

The trip is open to junior high and high school students.

The trip will be spent locally the first two days at the Santa Cruz Beach/Boardwalk, and at Alcatraz and Pier 39 in San Francisco.

The last three days will include excursions to Six Flags Magic Mountain, Universal Studios, Hollywood and Disneyland.

The cost for the Southern California portion of the trip is $200; the cost of the local portion of the trip is $60; and the entire trip is $250.

The fee includes admission to Alcatraz, Santa Cruz Beach/Boardwalk; all three theme parks in Southern California; and chartered bus transportation, lodging and supervision.

Registration forms are available at the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., in Los Altos or at the Underground Teen Center at Shoup Park in Los Altos. If you are interested, sign up now. Organizers said the trip fills quickly.

Loyola holds silent auction

The Loyola Parent-Teachers Association is holding its annual silent Auction, "An Evening in Paris," from 6-9 p.m., March 20, at the Fremont Hills Country Club, 12889 Viscano Place, Los Altos Hills. The event will feature music, drinks and door prizes. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of a new play structure for the Loyola playground.

Tickets are $20 per person. Reservations must be made by Monday. For more information, call Loyola School at 964-5165.

Almond holds 'walkabout'

Almond School will hold its annual "walkabout" from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, on a special quarter-mile course set up on the school's playground, 550 Almond Ave., Los Altos. "Walk and Shine in Ninety-Nine," named by first grader Ava Foudeh, is the school's largest fund-raiser. Participants must walk around the course as many times as they can, scoring a point for each completed lap.

MVHS hosts 'Casino Night'

The Mountain View High School Music Parents Association is sponsoring the 15th annual Casino Night and Silent Auction from 6:30-11 p.m., March 13, at St. Joseph's Parish Hall, 1120 Miramonte Ave., in Mountain View.

Casino night is the largest fund-raiser to support the Mountain View High School's award-winning instrumental music groups. Proceeds are used to purchase and repair instruments, uniforms, equipment and transportation costs.

Admission is $20 and includes food, music, and starter chips for casino games, a $25 gift certificate to Maddalena's Restaurant in Palo Alto, and the opportunity to bid on silent auction items.

Women's history at Foothill College

Foothill College in Los Altos Hills will be celebrating Women's History Month in March with a variety of free events.

There will be a guest lecture at 11 a.m., Thursday in Room 25 of the Library Building. History instructor Rachel Standish will speak about "The Body Politic: The Uncomfortable Fashions of Women Throughout History." An overview of the international women's liberation movement will be presented at 11 a.m., March 8, in Room 25 of the library building. Folk singer and activist Allette Brooks will perform her works at noon in Caesar Chavez Plaza.

The Hand-to-Hand Self-Defense Group will incorporate issues associated with violence against women and in the gay and lesbian community at noon, March 11, in the library quad. For more information about these or other scheduled events, call 949-7282.
