Fun at Gunn

Gunn High's annual "Clash of the Titans" sports fund-raiser will be held at 6 p.m., March 13 in the school's main gym. The evening will feature food, music, a silent auction and a co-ed basketball game between faculty and varsity. Auction items will include weekend vacations, dinners and pro sports tickets. All are welcome. Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for students and children. Gunn is at 780 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto. For more information, call Fran Codispoti at 941-8194.

Marquess reaches 900

Stanford University baseball coach Mark Marquess, a Mountain View resident, last month won the 900th game of his college career. Marquess reached the milestone Feb. 13, as the Cardinal beat visiting Santa Clara 6-2. Marquess is in his 23rd year as coach.

Join the racquet

The YMCA of the Mid-Peninsula, 755 Page Mill Road in Palo Alto, is now registering competitors for its Spring Racquetball League. The league, which welcomes players of all levels, runs from March 20 to May 23. Sign-up deadline is this Friday. Fees are $18 for members, $24 for non-members. For more information, call 858-0661.

Basketball tryouts

Off the Glass Basketball is forming Club and Elite AAU teams for spring and summer tournaments. There are roster spots available for boys, ages 11-14 and girls, ages 12-17.
