Chrissy Hirsch - St. Francis basketball

hrissy Hirsch, a senior on the St. Francis High girls basketball team, made the most of the short month of February.

"Over the last month, she's been our most consistent player on both ends of the floor," St. Francis coach Mike DeCarlo said. "Her best performances have come in the big games, particularly down the stretch."

The forward averaged a team-high 12 points per game in February, according to DeCarlo, and also led the Lancers in offensive rebounding.

Hirsch scored many of her points on the fast break, which is another area she excels in.

"Chrissy is one of the best open-court players around," DeCarlo said.

Hirsch's twin sister, Cindy, is a key starter on the team as well.

Cesar Valle - Los Altos wrestling

Cesar Valle's success as a wrestler can be explained in one word, according to Los Altos High coach Nick Testa.

"Determination," Testa said. "Cesar set his goals at the beginning of the year to win the league title and go to state."

Valle reached both goals in February. The 127-pound junior captured the SCVAL title Feb. 13 and then placed fourth at the CCS Championships Feb. 20.

The top four CCS wrestlers in each weight class move on to the state meet, set for this Friday and Saturday at the Spanos Center in Stockton.

Valle has racked up a 25-4 overall record, despite a sore left knee that's plagued him since the start of the season.

"Can you imagine what he'd do if he was healthy?" Testa said.
