Samantha Quintero struck out nine batters in Los Altos' 8-2 win at Independence March 3. The Eagles (2-2 overall) had five extra-base hits in the game, including triples by Ana Denmark, Lisa Gass and Jacqueline Roux.
St. Francis opened its season with a 17-2 shellacking of Monta Vista March 3 in Mountain View. Pitching ace Cory Montalbano earned the win, allowing four hits and striking out eight batters. Lauren Wong and Michelle Baca each tripled in the game and finished with three hits apiece. The Lancers had 18 hits in all.

Senior Mike Weber led the Pinewood School baseball team to a 16-7 win over host Harker Academy last Thursday in the season opener for both clubs.
Starting pitcher Weber not only earned the win but also went 6-6 at the plate and scored five runs. Josh Solera notched the save and was 4-4 at the plate. Solera and Brian Amanatullah each drove in a pair of runs for the Panthers. Pinewood pounded out 17 hits and limited Harker to only three.
Serra subdued St. Francis 7-1 March 3 in the championship game of the Piedmont Hills Pirate Classic, played at PAL Stadium in San Jose.
Mike Sloan took the loss for the Lancers (3-2). One of the few highlights for St. Francis was Dustin Hahn, who had four hits, including a triple.
Los Altos dropped to 0-2 in the SCVAL El Camino Division last Thursday with a 9-1 loss at Lynbrook. The Eagles (0-4 overall) were held to four hits, including a double by Erik Martinez.
Mountain View dropped to 1-1 in the El Camino Division last Thursday, falling 13-0 to visiting Palo Alto. Two days earlier, the Spartans (1-2 overall) beat host Gunn 9-6. Robbie Parfett earned the win and John Eddington recorded the save. Chris Yoshida powered the Mountain View offense, slugging a pair of home runs.
Los Altos swept host Mountain View 7-0 last Thursday in SCVAL De Anza Division play. The Eagles won all four singles matches in straight sets. Los Altos entered this week at 2-0 in the division, 5-0 overall, while the Spartans were 0-2, 1-2.
